How the hearing frequency test works
Human hearing spans roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz, but the top end shrinks naturally with age as the inner ear’s high-frequency hair cells wear down. This frequency test plays pure sine tones that rise step by step — you simply answer whether you can hear each one. The highest tone you catch is your personal upper limit, which maps loosely onto a hearing age.
For a fair result, use headphones at a moderate volume and sit somewhere quiet. Small laptop or phone speakers often can’t produce 17–20 kHz at all, so a “failed” top tone may be your hardware, not your ears — check your setup with the sound test first.
